How to Add a WhatsApp Link to Your Instagram Profile
Profile links, contact buttons, Stories and ads — the ways to send Instagram followers to a WhatsApp conversation with your business.

Instagram is where people discover you; WhatsApp is often where they prefer to ask questions and buy. Connecting the two gives followers an easy next step. Instagram adjusts its menus regularly, so look for these options under your profile and account settings.
1. Add a link in your profile
Edit your profile and add an external link that points to your wa.me click-to-chat URL (wa.me/ plus your international number). Give it a clear title such as 'Chat with us on WhatsApp'. If you use several links, put WhatsApp first.
2. Use a WhatsApp contact button
Business and creator profiles can show contact options. Where available, connect your WhatsApp Business number through Meta's Accounts Center or your profile's contact settings, so a WhatsApp button appears on your profile.
3. Link from Stories and posts
- Add a link sticker to Stories pointing to your wa.me link with a pre-filled message.
- Mention 'Message us on WhatsApp' in captions and save a Highlight with the link.
- Use different pre-filled messages per campaign to track where chats come from.
4. Run click-to-WhatsApp ads
For paid campaigns, Instagram ads can use a 'Send WhatsApp message' button that opens a chat directly — no profile visit needed. Pair them with an automated greeting so leads get an answer instantly.
Make the jump from follower to conversation one tap, not three.
Or answer on both
Some followers will always prefer Instagram DMs. A shared inbox that handles both Instagram and WhatsApp lets you meet everyone where they are — and move a conversation to WhatsApp when it makes sense, such as for order updates.
